Alentejo

Private visit to a luxury winery in Alentejo

This palace-house of the early eighteenth century is today a landmark, not only for its beauty, but also for its history and quality of the wines it has always produced. Its interior is rich in eighteenth-century tiles, and the marble, typical of the region, is also found a little everywhere. According to history, the Quinta was acquired by João V to offer it to a courtesan, with whom he was madly in love. It was this courtesan who gave the name to the Quinta and the wine that is produced here today. At a time after the construction of the house, a chapel was built in 1752, dedicated and consecrated to Our Lady of Carmen. From the beginning, wines have been fairly recognized, not only by the general public, but also by opinion leaders. With high scores in the renowned international magazines WineSpectator, Robert Parker and Wine Enthusiast, as well as in several international competitions, the Great Gold Medal Award was a great achievement, since it was, until then, the only Portuguese wine to win this distinction.
